Presentation is everything and first impressions matter most! 60 seconds and a product can you make the sale?

The 60 Second Pitch is a competition designed to increase the awareness of SIFE Acadia on campus while engaging potential new SIFE members. The competition challenges students to create a 60-second video to pitch a for-profit or not-for-profit business idea, or an invention. The competition encourages creative thinking and enhances communication skills, while also providing participants with the opportunity to win a monetary prize. Contestants may compete individually, or in teams of two.

EPIC - Ethics in Professional Institutions on Campus (Act II - Student Debt)epic

The second rendition of the Ethical Video Series happened on February 28th, we plan to focus on the same type of theme night: a short video/TV episode, a previous student who had student loans and paid them off with potential advice of strategies, a representative from the student financial aid department to discuss potential solutions, a professor that is well informed on student debt and then conclude the evening with the highly informative documentary: Maxed Out. The event will be focused around giving students an informed plethora of knowledge based on the tendency for student’s to fall in to debt and giving them resources to use to help prevent that from happening. The great thing about this theme is that it pertains to all students in all faculties, so we hope to get an even stronger showing than last time.

With this event we partnered with Valley Credit Union and had Marketing representative Trent O'Brien speak to the attendees regarding their banking options and the value of using a credit union as opposed to a mainstream banking institution. The event was a tremendous success with over 30 students attending and 100% indicating they learned how to better take care of their finances.

Craft Fair

craft fairThis fundraising project was intended to quickly raise money to help finance other SIFE Acadia initiatives. Our president Elizabeth Potter has donated a Christmas themed table topper that she has created. We held a raffle on the quilted table topper (worth $200) at the annual craft fair. The raffle tickets were for $1 for one ticket, or 6 tickets for $5. We raised over 250$ for the project for future club initiatives.

Pay the Piggy

Pay the Piggy brings financial literacy into the grade 4 classrooms of the Annapolis Valley teaching valuable life skills. What does income mean? Where does all the money come from any way? Interest – You earn it or you pay it! Teaching youth how to plan with small amounts of money leads to informed choices as they gain more financial responsibility.

Teach Kids? Invite is for an engaging interactive workshop! Reinforce math concepts in a real life situation and inspire creativity as kids create their custom piggy bank!
